You want to learn How to Build a Niche Website. Who doesn’t?
The first thing you should do when you start to learn about niche websites is focus on the fundamentals.
What are the core steps that successful niche bloggers take to earn money online?
Follow the steps below and build only 1 niche website at a time.
Once you start to learn how to build a niche website you will naturally be interested in a million different topics and want to create a few websites at once. I DO NOT recommend this 🙂
I suggest you follow the steps below and build 1 quality website in your first 3o days of blogging.
Building one site will let you begin to master the fundamentals and learn lessons you can carry into multiple sites at a later date.
The Niche Website Fundamentals:
- Select your Niche Website Topic by Researching Your Interests
- Create the Framework for Your Niche Website to Hang On
- Add Necessary SEO and Google Analytics Plugins to Your Website
- Develop a Content Plan and Categories based on Keyword Research
- Write Content for Keywords and Publish It
- Set Up Social Media Accounts and Link to Your Website
- Develop Backlinks and Comment On Other Relevant Websites
- Add Email Lead Capture such as Aweber
- Create a Give-Away PDF which Relates to Your Niche Website to Help with Lead Capture
- Create Broadcast Emails to Promote Niche Products to Email Leads Every Week
By following the above steps you will be able to create a solid niche website that has all the bases covered.
Each of the points listed above will take time to accomplish. And, each topic is worth me writing multiple posts about. But to keep it simple I’ll recap each briefly below.
Point #1 – Select your Niche Website Topic by Researching YOUR Interests
This is the basis of a niche website. What are YOU interested in?
What do you see yourself spending time writing about?
Niche Websites are about sharing content with others in a way that:
Adds Value to Their Lives & Points them in the Direction of a Sale for a Product that Meets a Need in Their Life…
You want to make sure that you start your first Niche Website based on something you will stay interested in.
When I began my first niche websites, I was focused on creating sites that were based on stuff I read online or thought would make me money. BUT, I had no interest in really pursuing the sites after initial set-up because I enjoyed reading about the stuff, not writing about it!
My most successful niche site is about a topic that I enjoy, have worked on professionally in the past, is a hobby, and captures my attention & money.
This is the only way I’ve been able to put my time into this site.
If you want to start your business on the right foot – choose something you love or really like and then dig deep with that topic.
Point #2 – Create the Framework for Your Niche Website to Hang On
Keyword Research is essential here. You should use the Google Keyword Tool to search for keywords in your niche.
You should study websites that are similar to yours. See what type of Menu Labels, Categories, and TAGS they are using to distinguish their site structure. You can learn a lot by studying the competition.
Research 2-3 of the top websites in your niche and mimic their internal menu, category and tag structures. Build your internal framework to match theirs in most ways. This way you are assured to cover all the bases.
And, while you are researching their websites see which categories are possibly MISSING!
This will give you the opportunity to add a unique twist on your niche website. You will want to find ways to offer unique content for your customers.
Also, this is the time when you should be looking at blog templates and deciding which style of layout you would like your website to resemble.
I recommend using Elegant Themes as a jumping off point. You can get a lot of options for a flat annual rate.
If you are trying to build an Amazon Links only site, check out Easy AZON. The Easy AZON niche site builder is catered toward affiliate links from Amazon.
During Step #2 – you will want to: Build Your Website Sitemap – Register a Domain Name & Get Your Website Hosted [I recommend using Bluehost], and – Choose a Theme to start building your niche site with.
Point #3 – Add Necessary SEO and Google Analytics Plugins to Your Website
Now, #3 is quite debatable as to exactly which plugins are needed for a well-built website.
These are the ones I use:
- Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode by SeedProd
- Jetpack by WordPress.com
- Optin Forms (Use with AWeber to Capture Email Leads)
- Simple URLs
- WordPress SEO
- Ad Injection
- Contextual Related Posts
- Google Site Verification plugin using Meta Tag
- Google XML Sitemaps
- Regenerate Thumbnails
- WP Super Cache
I also like to use SIMPLE URLS to cloak/hide links. Simple URLS lets you use your affiliate link and make a pretty url redirect. However, be sure to NOT cloak your Amazon Affiliate Links with Simple URLs.***
***I recently was sent an email from the Amazon Affiliate team to uncloak my links or lose my affiliate account. I immediately deleted all the cloaked URLs. Amazon was satisfied. However, I did have to go back and update my articles with new Amazon friendly links. Since then I’ve noticed an increase in all my links getting clicked on. Not sure what the relationship is, but I’m satisfied with the results. Being an Amazon affiliate means a lot to my site.
Ok, for now I’ve covered the first 3 Steps on Building a Niche Website. More on the remaining 7 to follow!
If you want to see just how profitable someone can be using Amazon, take a look at Problogger Darren Rowse’s experience. He has a few robust websites that I follow. And after making over $500,000 on Amazon alone, he’s someone to model your niche website money-maker on.
