How I Make Money From My Blog/Niche Website:
June 2016 Bloggers Earnings Report
June 2016 has been an amazing month for me. It was the 2 year anniversary for my niche website… and ironically, I made over $222 this month in profit from my Amazon Affiliate site.
That’s a 62% increase over May – and a Milestone for me.
In 2016, I’ve made over $600 from Amazon Affiliate marketing. (Update Sept 2016 – YTD sales are over $1440).
That’s almost double what I made in 2015. I only made $321 in 2015 – see 2015’s Earnings Report here.
My June 2016 Amazon Affiliate Sales were $222.52
My Stats were slightly lower this month than last month, but that’s ok. It’s not peak selling season right now.
I started using Clicky Analytics in June and love the interface. If you are confused about why WordPress and Google Analytics stats don’t match up – check out Clicky. Everything makes sense regarding my traffic now.
LEARN ABOUT CLICKY AND WHAT IT CAN DO FOR YOU…
Above is the basic WordPress Monthly Stats, and below is the Clicky stats for the same site. I loooove the Clicky interface. There’s even a whole lot more to see when you use the free trial. I highly recommend Clicky.
Overall, my bounce rate is 26% – very happy with that. And, on average each visitor has at least 2 actions on site. Usually the first page they come to and a second page view or a click on a link to Amazon.
This month has by far been a pivotal month for me in a few ways:
- My thinking changed about sales
- My expectations for daily revenue increased
- My pursuit of better blog posts has become a priority
- Implementation of other bloggers advice has taken hold
My Thinking Changed About Sales
In the past I was excited if I got 1 or 2 items to show up in my Amazon account sales for the day.
In June I had a few days where sales were OVER 10 items.
That’s an increase due to traffic growing because of better posts, longer posts, more targeted post titles, etc.
My Expectations for Daily Revenue Increased
I also had some items that cost over $300 show up.
And, I had 2 over $40 income days on Amazon in June. That’s new for me!
I’m used to having a few $20 days and a variety of $2-$10 days, but June set my expectation level so much higher.
I’m aiming for $40 days to become the norm.
My overall goal is to make over $10,000 in the next 9 months from my niche websites.
To do that I need a ton of daily sales on Amazon.
And, I need better and more frequent posts.
In March I wrote: March Madness Earnings Report halfway through the month. I was happy to have made $58 by mid-March. Read more about it to see how things are growing – March Madness.
My Pursuit of Better Blog Posts has Become a Priority
At the beginning of 2016 I decided that I was going to put more effort into my Amazon Affiliate niche website mostly because I found 1 web post from a guy who makes a ton of money from his niche websites.
His post and a few others on his website have made me rethink my approach to niche websites and how to make money.
His strategy is the Skyscraper Technique. Basically you write epically long content which is better than the first couple of articles on Page 1 of Google for your Niche.
Seeing his income and learning from his advice has had a dramatic increase in my sales…. so, if you ever read this, Brent, thank you for writing that post!
How You Can Make More Money with Your Niche Site:
If you are new to my website and didn’t read last months income report (May 2016 Income Report), the gist of what you need to do is this:
- Write longer content posts
- Write Best Of posts
- Promote your content via social media
- Add in Call to Action Buttons
In June I wrote 6 posts that implemented new advice and strategies – and my income increased 62%
What Should You do to Make Money with a Blog Online?
If you are new to affiliate marketing, the best thing you can do is write mammoth posts that give people actionable advice to help them purchase something – that something is whatever your blog is going to focus on. Your niche.
Choose a niche where people want to make a purchase and aren’t just looking for some how to advice… unless the how to advice leads them to purchasing something that makes their live better, easier, or provides a solution to a problem… such as DIY websites where people remodel… or DIY websites where people need to purchase something to make their lives better….
This month my family is remodeling our bathroom DIY style. And, we researched toilets – and ended up on a 100% full blown toilet affiliate marketing website…. no shit!
This site had over 100 pages dedicated to toilets… and all linked back to Amazon or Home Depot or other sites that will ship toilets.
So, when the rubber meets the road and it’s time to shit or get off the pot with your affiliate marketing sites… take heed… people are making money writing about crappers. If they can do it, so can you.
Promoting My Niche Website
This month I kept up with Twitter and Facebook posting. I didn’t pay for any Facebook ads though. Right now a debate is raging about how FB is screwing up its algorithms. It’s making it more difficult for pages to get natural views without paying for ads.
My thought is that if I can write better content and have it rank on the front page of Google, that’s a much better strategy than paying 5 bucks every once in a while for direct traffic that may not even be GOOD traffic.
So – my promotion is to write better articles.
Overall, my traffic increased, my clicks increased and my sales increased because I hit page 1 with a few new posts!
2016 Content Goals for My Niche Website
For the rest of 2016 I am going to continue to write longer articles.
Secondly, I started a second niche website that deals with the technology side of my niche.
In addition to writing about soft goods that people want to buy for their camera gear, I’m going to branch out into the technology.
This is requiring a ton of reading about products I’m unfamiliar with.
It’s a lot of fun to learn about the products and grow my knowledge base.
With the long format strategy for posting, I am hoping to rank for long tail keywords soon.
I do know it takes time for a new website to get any visitors but looking back on my original niche website it took me 3 months to make my first $.02. And, if it takes 3 months for this site to make money, that’s also ok.
2016 Monetary Goals for My Amazon Affiliate Niche Website
Now that I’ve gotten to almost $250 in June, I’d like to generate $500 for July.
Actually, I’d like to be making $10,000 per month, but that’s a bit of a stretch.
I know I can eventually do it, and that’s what’s in my mind right now.
Everything I do in the present moment is with the goal of being a 6 Figure Blogger.
Can I do it??
I can now buy a lot of cups of coffee per day based solely on my website earnings!!
My $222 income is another milestone in a weird way.
I was thinking about minimum wage in America – at about $8 per hour, my website made 1 weeks worth of minimum wage income.
That’s both sad and exciting.
I consider it a milestone to have made 1 weeks worth of full time minimum wage by blogging from my home – sometimes late at night, definitely early in the morning – and usually in my pajamas!
Although it’s a lot of money for some people – my full time income is Freelance Bag Design where I make $50 per hour. That’s because I have a long professional work history in soft goods design.
Overall, my June 2016 earnings are just 4 hours of work for me on a normal day…
BUT – I don’t want to freelance or work for someone else forever. I want to be my own boss 100% and make money on my own.
And, I have a second business where I sell Alpaca blankets. It’s just starting up (and in summer when it’s hot!).
The traffic building is slow going for that… if you like blankets and especially Alpaca – our products are on sale right now at 50% off 🙂 (the sale ended in August 2016).

- Read my post How to Make Money Without a Website
- Check out Affilorama… they offer training in affiliate marketing. Click on the banner below to head over to their website. They have a solid system in place to teach you how to make money from your blog.
They even help you by providing the keywords to write about, email swipes, blog post topics with a majority of the work done for you.
All you need to do is set up a website – get a URL and webhosting – I recommend Bluehost – and start writing based on what Affilorama tells you to do.

If you need to earn more money on the side, research niche website ideas and create a list of possible niche ideas for you to make money with. Spend some time in Google looking at search results, monthly search queries and blogs or websites that already exist. Take a few days or weeks up front to find a money-making niche and then create content. If I can make money blogging with a competitive niche like camera bags, you surely can, too!

*There are affiliate links in this blog post. And I write about the products because they mean something to me. If you click on a link and purchase a book or service, you will be all the smarter in the long run… and I might make an affiliate commission. This is how affiliate marketing works – how content marketing works. The FTC requires that we (people who have affiliate links & adverts on their sites) put a disclaimer on the sites so that consumers know what’s going on. No one has paid me to write about anything above. I do it because I love it, and I hope you learn something that you can apply to yourself to make money one day!
